The story
Formerly squatted artists' house, near Friedrichstraße, Mitte
From 1990 to 2012 the Kunsthaus Tacheles on Oranienburger Straße was one of Berlin's most important squatted artists' houses — galleries, workshops, bars, all in a war ruin. The building was cleared in 2012 and has changed greatly since. A symbol of the old, free, untamed Berlin. Today a shopping mall is being built there.
